I've tried to send invitations to anyone I could find on Vox. (I have to send you an invitation in order for you to join our group since it's private.)
If you haven't gotten an invitation, post a comment or send me a message and then I'll have your profile info. Then, I can send you an invitation. Don't forget to get your parents to join Vox too!
Only 155 days until we leave for Australia!
This should be posted in all schools.
Love him or hate him, he sure hits the nail on the head with this! To anyone with kids of any age, here's some advice.
Bill Gates recently gave a speech at a High School about 11 things they did not and will not learn in school. He talks about how feel-good, politically correct teachings created a generation of kids with no concept of reality and how this concept set them up for failure in the real world.
Rule 1 : Life is not fair - get used to it!
Rule 2 : The world won't care about your self-esteem. The world will expect you to accomplish something BEFORE you feel good about yourself.
Rule 3 : You will NOT make $60,000 a year right out of high school. You won't be a vice-president with a car phone until you earn both.
Rule 4 : If you think your teacher is tough, wait till you get a boss.
Rule 5 : Flipping burgers is not beneath your dignity. Your
grandparents had a different word for burger flipping: they called it opportunity.
Rule 6 : If you mess up, it's not your parents' fault, so don't whine about your mistakes, learn from them.
Rule 7 : Before you were born, your parents weren't as boring as they are now. They got that way from paying your bills, cleaning your clothes and listening to you talk about how cool you thought you were. So before you save the rain forest from the parasites of your parent's generation, try delousing the closet in your own room.
Rule 8 : Your school may have done away with winners and losers, but life HAS NOT. In some schools, they have abolished failing grades and they'll give you as MANY TIMES as you want to get the right answer. This doesn't bear the slightest resemblance to ANYTHING in real life.
Rule 9 : Life is not divided into semesters. You don't get summers off and very few employers are interested in helping you FIND YOURSELF. Do that on your own time.
Rule 10: Television is NOT real life. In real life people actually
have to leave the coffee shop and go to jobs.
Rule 11: Be nice to nerds. Chances are you'll end up working for one.
Well, I'm still sick!!! I don't think I have ever been sick for this long in my life (it's been 4 days now). I've been taking my antibiotics religiously and Nyquil and I are very good friends. I've even resorted to my grandmother's old "gargle salt water" cold remedy. It hasn't worked!?! Today I literally sat in my classroom with my head on my desk. I even slept during my lunch and planning bell - again with my head on my desk. I guess I should have stayed home but my students have a test tomorrow so I had to be there to help them review. I think I should be nominated for "Teacher of the Year" ;)
P.S. - Let me know if you know of any INSTANT remedies....
I'm home sick today - I never get sick! I have strep throat so it's not even fun being out from school. Cough-Cough, Hack-Hack! This better go away by Friday - otherwise, I will be laying on the beach with cough drops and drinking hot tea! :(
I'm not always fond of all the forwards I get from friends but this one is worthwhile. I sent it to almost everyone in my email's address book and thought i might get a few that would also particpate through the blog.... Check it out - it will only take a second and will truly make someone's holiday a little brighter.
If you go to this web site, www.LetsSayThanks.com you can pick out a thank you card and Xerox will print it and it will be sent to a soldier that is currently serving in Iraq. You can't pick out who gets it, but it will go to some member of the armed services.
How AMAZING it would be if we could get everyone we know to send one!!!
This is a great site.
Please send a card. It is FREE and it only takes a second.
Wouldn't it be wonderful if the soldiers received a bunch of these? Whether you are for or against the war, our guys and gals over there need to know we are behind them ...
Happy Holidays
I just came across this great website. It has everything from Australian weather to Australian food.
P.S. - Have a great Thanksgiving!
Just goes to show you that you learn something new everyday! Check out this article about Ayers Rock.
